Abstract des Autors

The current studies have suggested that children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) may participate less in physical activities due to their handicap and its psycho-social consequences, and thus increasing the risk of unhealthy body weight. The aim of the study was to examine the association between motor difficulties and unhealthy body weight, i.e. overweight and obesity, in the Czech 11–14 years old children, and at the same time, to determine if this association is affected by the gender and age of subjects. Results of the study support the hypothesis on the motor difficulties as the risk factor for unhealthy body weight in children. Incidence of overweight and obesity in older school-age children with motor difficulties could be twofold in comparison with the subjects without motor difficulties. At the same time, a trend of the higher BMI in children with low motor competency was demonstrated. The age and gender did not seem to be the factors of the association between motor competency and body weight, resp. BMI. Verf.-Referat
