Abstract

This bibliography is the first bibliography in NSA dealing exclusively with all aspects of the 400m hurdles. However, there were hurdle bibliographies published in NSA 2/1988, 4/1990, 2/1993, and in 1 + 2/2006, which also included publications dealing with this event. This bibliography contains 151 articles and books about the 400m hurdles from the years 1964 to the present. It is subdivided into four chapters: 1. Technical, biomechanical, and tactical aspects of the 400m hurdles (43 documents) 2. Training, conditioning and coaching aspects of the hurdles (33 documents) 3. Psychological aspects of the 400m hurdles (5 documents) 4. Medical (anthropometric and metabolic) aspects of the hurdles (4 documents) 5. Women’s and girls’ 400m hurdles and sex differences (41 documents) 6. Comprehensive and general articles about the hurdles (25 documents).This bibliography has been compiled by using SPOLIT, the sports literature database of the Federal Institute of Sport Science (BISp) in Cologne, Germany (www.bispdatenbanken. de, free access), and SPORTdiscus, the database of the Sport Research and Information Centre in Ottawa, Canada (www.sirc.ca, no free access). In addition, some of the articles were found by a “free search” in the Central Library of Sports Science at the German Sports University in Cologne and others are from the private library of the author.
