Abstract

The Cedell fracture, an avulsion fracture of the posteromedial side of the talus is rare and easily missed, and could be diagnosed as a simple medial ankle sprain. Conventional radiology can be misleading. The fracture can be missed or assessed as an os trigonum. A CT scan is the appropriate diagnostic tool. Open reduction with internal fixation of the bone fragment to the talus is the optimal treatment. In a longstanding unrecognized fracture, excision of the bone fragment with the callus gives the best functional outcome. Verf.-Referat

Abstract

De Cedell fractuur. een avulsiefractuur van de posteromediale zijde van de talus is zeldzaam en wordt gemakkelijk beoordeeld als een eenvoudig mediaal enkelbandletsel. Conventionele radiologie kan misleidend zijn. waarbij de fractuur op een os trigonum lijkt of geheel gemist wordt. Een CT-scan is het aangewezen diagnostisch middel. Open reductie met interne fixatie van het botfragment op de talus is de optimale behandeling. Bij een lang bestaande miskende fractuur geeft excisie van het botfragment met de callus de beste functionele uitkomst. Verf.-Referat
