Abstract

Sport as social phenomena becomes crucial component of personality development, it gives emotional experience, stimulates perfection and becoming physically strong person. Aiming to understand person one must now his/her value orientations, human values. This is an issue that must be solved. The aim of our research was to identify student athletes’ life principles as value orientation as well as characteristics and importance of there values. Using method of retrospective questionnaire, 73 student athletes were polled. They were split into two groups: first group made up of 43 players and second group of 30 representatives of individual sports. During the research there was found that student athletes use 82 different notions to describe value orientations (number of given values was 347). Research results have demonstrated that student athletes consider relations with other people as their main value (as life principle) – 180.0 assessments (41.2% of general number of evaluations, 9.1 point) (first number shows quantity of evaluations and second gives qualitative evaluation). During the research there were identified values that student athletes stick to: moral – 106.0 and 8.6, relations with parents and other dose people – 54.0 and 9.1 and love – 20.0 and 9.6. Much of attention respondents gave to themselves stressing importance of moral and volitional features – 158.0 and 9.1. Respondents considered work as quite an important value – 90.0 or 8.4, including: studies – 32.0 and 7.5, interests – 26.0 and 9.1, profession – 10.0 and 8.4, sport – 22.0 and 8.9. During the analysis and comparison of most significant value orientations of players and individual sport athletes it had been noticed that values of love, respect to parents and dose people, relatives, older people is very important to both groups – accordingly 27.9 and 10.0, 28.1 and 9.2. This construct dominates among the values. Personal family values are also based an positive attitudes, but their expression was minimal. Expression of moral and volitional features as expression of values is quite wide: 18.8 and 8.9 among players, 14.1 and 8.8 among the representatives of individual sports. When evaluating studies and profession, higher priority was given to studies, 15.9 and 8.0, 4.8 and 8.5. Student athletes considered higher education diploma acquisition more important than knowledge. Sport and interests was quite important for players and individual sport representatives: 31.1 and 9.2, 17.2 and 8.9. Students stressed increasing of sport performance level and seeking for ideal results. Analysis of research results allows assuming that values of different sports representatives are permanent and reflecting human values. Verf.-Referat
