N2 - The integration of the Czech Republic into the European Union structures and associated reforms of public administration resulted in a stronger position for cities and the public policy of the local authorities. The approach of local authorities to particular areas of public policy including sport issues influences the environment and quality of life in administrated areas to a great degree. This paper presents partial results of the study on the approach of local authorities of the particular districts of the capital city of Prague which are related to sport issues. The research methods included content analyses of official documents and interviews with responsible municipal office members. The authors report on the status of sport in the public policy framework as well as its organizational, financial, and personal background in the structures of local authority. The first outcomes of the study showed differences in the approaches of local authorities in regard to sport issues and the impact of financial limitations and political priorities as well as professional competence, or personal preferences of particular councilors.
