Abstract
This overview on the status of current discussions surrounding physical education and school development is based on German-language monographs and anthologies, and on articles in professional journals published in the years 2008 and 2009. As several of the sports education topics addressed in this article are the subject of ongoing discussion, publications appearing before the period under review will also be included. The article deals with the following themes: physical education as an object of disciplinary and interdisciplinary observations, concepts of physical education lessons, sport teaching approaches, physical education at various levels and in various forms of school, and profile development.
