Abstract

Backache has been identified as the second most common pain complaint and cause for physician visits among aging adults. Backache has also been shown to be the leading cause of functional limitations in adults under 45 years of age, and more back problems occur in the lumbar region than in any other part of the spine. Low back pain (LBP) is only a symptom and is not a diagnosis. Therefore clinicians who treat, train, or educate individuals with LBP must have a basic understanding of the structural and functional conditions that may cause pain so they can better serve the interests of their patients. The purpose of this report is to discuss key elements of functional versus structural influences on postural abnormalities and their contributions to development of LBP. Verf.-Referat
