Abstract

The patterns of physical activity in men's soccer – measured via the use of external indicators of effort – have been widely studied, as have the physiological demands of competition – measured via the use of internal indicators. However, research into these areas in women's football is only beginning. The aim of the present study was to characterise the behaviour of top class men's and women's soccer teams in terms of shot, goal and save characteristics in order to detect gender-based differences. Such information may allow the construction of a model by which specific the demands of women's soccer can be established. This would then allow training and teaching to be modified to better meet these demands. Aus der Einleitung
