Abstract

The ski-sliding friction on flat and stitfly packed snow can be interpreted with experimental results on ice, and can then be considered a common basic resistance. Based on this understanding, the authors have introduced a combined resistance measurement system by comparing resistances between three types of measuring apparatuses: a stationary snow plate with a rotating disk, a rotating snow track with a static model ski, and a straight snow-track with a sliding model ski. The combined measurement will provide some quantitative understanding of the sliding ski on snow other than of a stiffly packed snow surface. In this way, the authors believe that the comparative study using the combined measurement system will result in quantitative discrimination of resistances affecting ski sliding on rather undisturbed snow.
