Abstract des Autors

Results from this study show that young children will wear the accelerometer for multiple data collection days. The children and their caregivers complied in completing the time activity diary, wearing the accelerometer, and videotaping representative activities. The statistical analysis showed a strong and positive relationship between diary entries and accelerometer output (r=.42, p <.0001). When the diary entries and accelerometer data were classified into three categories (sleeping/eating, quiet play, and active play), the classifications were identical for 70% of the entries. This is a positive result and provides assurance that subjective diary entries have some objective reality. Using an accelerometer in combination with a time activity diary adds a significant dimension to caregiver-provided activity diary data normally obtained in field measurement studies to estimate potential exposures and dose received from chemicals of interest.
