Abstract

The article focuses on revealing the peculiarities of formation of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in lovers of aerobics. It is intended to not only answer the question why athletes fight for victories, but also to the question why lovers of sports attend sport clubs. Attention is given to the fact that motivation has two sources – one flowing out of a person’s inside (intrinsic) and the other coming from outside (extrinsic). Intrinsically motivated athletes possess an intrinsic scheme that encourages them to be competent and to find their own way of solving and mastering a task, and to seek success. Competence, persistence, mastery and success are the goals that are pursued by intrinsically motivated people and their achievements are a reward by itself. Extrinsic motivation comes from other people through positive and negative reinforcement (reinforcement means everything that increases or decreases the probability of the repetition of certain behaviour. The work included the following tasks: 1) to define how the lovers of sports intrinsic and extrinsic motivation is influenced by the method of identification; and 2) to explore the impact of internalization on lovers of sports intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. For the investigation of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of the lovers of sports the K. Zamfir’s motivation research questionnaire was employed. This method is applied for the diagnostics of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of sport activity. Two experiments of one alternative were carried out to substantiate how the athletes’ attitude to values is conditioned by the methods of direct motivation formation. It is nevertheless true that the method of identification made impact on negative extrinsic motivation of lovers of sports: after the impact this motivation has increased (p<0.05) while according to intrinsic motivation statistically significant differences before and after the impact of identification have not been detected. It was determined that when using internalization it is possible to strengthen (p<0.05) intrinsic motivation which encourages lovers of sports to be competent, to master given tasks and to seek success. It is concluded that for the lovers of sports it is the most appropriate to use the method of internalization because it stimulates intrinsic motivation and increases higher self-responsibility.
