Abstract

A typical rowing competition takes place on 2000m-course and lasts 6-7 min. Rowers need large muscular strength for the acceleration of the boat at the start and a high oxidative capacity to maintain the speed during the race. Morphological and metabolic data indicate the importance of specific and maximal endurance for competition success. Therefore, endurance training forms the main part of the training schedule. Training effects of rowers are achieved by work in five different ranges, based at lactate levels. The volume and intensity of training loads are controlled and corrected in relation to periodical efficiency tests. The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes of power index (in W • kg body mass-1) in 7 young female and 8 young male rowers (members of the national junior team of the Federation of Polish Rowing Societies), preparing to participate in world championship in various periods of training cycle, calculated at lactic acid levels.
