Abstract

Physical Education is considered as a basic right of all children. Since the World Summit on Physical Education we have a clear view what comprises "quality Physical Education". However, huge differences exist between countries and regions. In this book the situation of Physical Education is compared by means of a worldwide survey. This allows some universally accepted features and concepts to be established, and it also allows responses to common problems to be found. It is one of the first qualitative approaches to provide comprehensive information on the state of Physical Education around the world. The chapters are authored by prominent and highly-qualified experts from various countries and educationally autonomous states, all of whom have worked on curriculum development in Physical Education.
