Abstract

Abstract

On international level the athletic performance developed continuously in the course of the Olympic cycle 2000-2004. In Germany only a few athletes reach the threshold of international top level performances. The reasons for these positive performance developments, which in the majority of the cases have been counselled in the fields of performance diagnostics, training methodology and competition analysis by the Institute for Applied Training Science, are summarized in the second part of the paper. Simultaneously performance reserves are presented for the endurance events in track and field. Besides the continuous work with the best senior elite athletes more attention has to be given to the performance directed training in the age-groups of youth and juniors. Verf.-Referat
