Abstract

Globalisation tendencies of the contemporary world also concern the field of sport. There is a unification of sport and the conditions under which it is both carried out and watched by spectators. It arises that sport can play a certain role also in creation and strengthening of identity on various levels. The article deals with identity perceiving by the public as well as with international sports achievements of national teams. The issue of national identity was dealt with by youth aged 15 - 18 (n=246) and adults over 18 (n=952). It was proved that the national sports teams clearly represent a very important moment of national identity perception by the citizens.
