Abstract

From 9-11 December 2004, the International Congress on "Women, Sport & Leadership" was held in Berlin, Germany. Participants from more than 15 countries attended this unique event, which brought together experts from diverse fields of expertise and from several different regions of the world. It was our aim to increase and intensify the exchange of information and to encourage cross-disciplinary dialogue. In addition we endeavoured to build bridges between researchers and practitioners involved in the areas of women, sport and leadership. This publication contains speeches, manuscripts of paper presented and the summaries of workshops and posters. It is our hope that the publication of these proceedings will make an important contribution to intensified scientific efforts and the dissemination of the most recent findings with a broader public. Enhanced communication and dialogue is part of an empowering process for all involved to ensure equal opportunity for women, not only on the playing field in sport, but also at the leadership level in all sectors of society, and, in particular, in sport.
