Abstract

With the development of biological/medical disciplines, the attention of research workers has been more oriented to investigation of the issue of genetic determination of sports performance. There is an assumption under which the insertion-deleting (I/D) poolymorphism of a gene for angiotensine-converting enzyme (ACE) represents a possible biological factor of sports succes. By means of genetic examination of 36 top athletes, it was determined that distribution of genotypes in the group of athletes is different from ordinary population. In the group of athletes, higher frequency of homozygous individuals with I/I was recorded. It was also ascertained that the functional state of individuals with a genotype containing allele I was statistically much better than in individuals with this allele deficit. The fatigue index parameter confirmed the assumption defined on the basis of metabolic path mechanisms. Verf.-Ref.
