Abstract

The essence of this method is stimulation consisting in the help of the therapist or parent to initiate or enforce movement. This procedure led to the increase of the number of stimuli attacking the cortex which is involved in the so called healthy development of the brain. It was assumed that the minimum number of repetitions will be 5 repetitions in one series. In the initial period 2-3 series were introduced with breaks of half to one and a half minute between each series. As skills improved, the number of repetitions and series of repetitions increased. The number of repetitions was recorded on a motor improvement chart. In the period from 1991 to 1995 the boy made 136,722 repetitions of exercises. As a result of such a long work on the part of the child a number of positive motor changes as well as behavioral ones was observed. The boy exercises more willingly, runs around the house, walks on a horizontal bar/bench, by his own volition turns light on and off, kicks the ball, completes an obstacle track, runs, jumps onto and off objects. The applied method of stimulated serial repetitions of exercises in an autistic child, who by the diagnosis of doctors has been deprived of chances for normal functioning, confirms its significant influence on the motor skills of the boy as well as on changes in behavior.
