Abstract

The aim of the paper was to determine the effect of physical activity and demographic factors and the physical fitness level of children from various environments (city and rural area) and attending the same school. Moreover, we attempted at assessing the influence of the school on standardising a physical fitness level. The study included 4th to 8th-form school children aged 10-15 from the Primary School in the city Obrzycko. We investigated two class sequences: sequencs A - subjects from Obrzycko; sequence B - subjects from nearby villages, attending the Primary School in Obrzycko beginning with the 4th form. In order to determine a physical fitness level the following motor traits were taken into account: speed, flexibility, agility, jumping skill and endurance fitness. The conducted studies and statistical analysis results provided evidence that: a generally higher level of fitness was observed among children from Obrzycko, the observed differences were statistically insignificant, except the flexibility parameter at the age 10-12, both among boys and girls, as follows from the analysis of the differences in the two age groups, the influence of school as a unifying factor was only in flexibility.
