Abstract des Autors

The purpose of the study was to investigate leadership behavior, roles, and job responsibilities of NCAA Division 1A strength and conditioning coaches. A demographic data sheet and the Strength and Conditioning Coaches' Leadership Scale for Sport (coach's perception of own behavior) were mailed to all Division 1A head and assistant strength and conditioning coaches. No significant differences were found between head and assistant strength and conditioning coaches on any of the 5 dimensions of leadership behavior (training and instruction, democratic behavior, autocratic behavior, social support, reward behavior and positive feedback). Significant differences were found between head and assistant strength and conditioning coaches (p</=0.05) on the job responsibility variable percentage of their work week spent on administrative duties. Data also revealed significant differences between the sex of the strength and conditioning coaches and the percentage of time allocated in working with various student athletes (revenue sport or nonrevenue sport) (p</=0.05). Male coaches spend a higher percentage of the work week working with revenue athletes. Verf.-Referat
