Abstract des Autors
Injuries are inevitable in any sport that requires extreme demands in terms of strength, power, speed and endurance. However, with the surveillance of injuries, preventive, treatment and rehabilitation measures can be formulated. This study investigated the field hockey injuries that led either to a temporary stoppage of the game and/or substitution of a player during the Dasmesh and Gold Cup tournaments involving 9 male clubs and played on astroturf surface. A total of 111 injuries were registered: 50 (45.05%) in the Dasmesh cup while 61 (54.95%) in the Gold cup. The majorities of injuries were concussions and fractures. The lower part of the body (below the hip) suffered more injuries (60.43%) mostly caused by another person, stick or ball (70.26%). The majority of the injuries affected the attackers (36.99%) as compared to defenders (31.53%). Most injuries occured when players were defending (37.48%). More injuries were observed in the second (60.36%) compared to (39.64) first half. The injuries observed in this study are characteristic of field hockey and have been observed elsewhere.
