Abstract

Olympic sport is based on codified rules and all the sporting disciplines incorporated within the Olympic family are constituted through finitely defined rules. They are, in themselves, clearly distinguishable as phenomena and create attractiveness and appeal for both active competitors and those watching it as entertainment. Unlike natural laws, the laws of sport have been laid down by man. One of their primary features is that they must be obeyed by those who have agreed on them. However, applying the same basic principle, it is also possible for these rules to be broken. If the fraud of doping is defined as a breach of the rules, then it can be said, and must be accepted that there is no solution to the doping problem as far as principles are concerned. Although there is fraud in sport, sport is really remarkable for the overwhelming adherence to the principles of fair play. Fraud in sport actually underlines and highlights the positive quality of sport itself. Should a situation arise whereby sport consisted of nothing more than fraud, then something other than sport would be taking place because sport would have lost its true meaning. Aus der Einleitung
