Abstract des Autors

The progress made in fiber-reinforced composities and the resulting advanced aerodynamic design (especially in laminar-flow airflows) over the past 20 years has made it possible to build sophisticated human-powered airplanes with half the weight of earlier human-powered aircraft (HPA). The optimum configuration seems to be a conventional high-wing monoplane with a faired hanging cockpit and an all-moving rudder. At a flying speed of about 8.5 m/s this configuration would have a wing span of about 25 m and a power requirement of slightly below 200W (near the ground). This chapter provides guidance to designers of HPA by considering the design of a future HPA which we will call the Cyclair. Verf.-Referat
