abstract This chapter explains the basic of steering in human-powered vehicles. Many articles have presented the theory of bicycle steering in exhaustive detail, so I will simply illustrate some basic principles to allow HPV builders to design stable machines. After reviewing bicycle-steering geometry, I discuss steering with two wheels, using automotive steering as a model and comparing bicycle and automotive steering. Good steering behavior of single-track vehicles is given principally by appropriate choices of the head-tube angle and the trail. Front-steered four-wheel vehicles require choices of many more steering design angles and relative distances. Verf.-Referat
