Abstract des Autors

My task has been not to introduce a new theory but rather to describe a metaphor which makes application of the EP-hypothesis (equilibrium point) to control of multi-joint movements intuitively more clear, suggests interpretations of some of the recently published data, and creates a potentially fruitful environment for future studies. There is a sharp contrast between the ideas of control of movements through direct computation and application of forces to working points or intermediate segments or through control of muscle activation patterns and the ideas of EP-control when movements are consequences of changes of an elastic force field which is controlled by the brain making use of both peripheral and reflex-mediated visoelastic muscle properties.
