Abstract des Autors

Validity of EEG, MRI, and SPECT for determining the post-traumatic sequelae was evaluated in eighteen male sportsmen with the past history of a minor head trauma. The results indicate that shortly after the trauma accompanied by the brain commotion disturbances in the regional cerebral blood flow, which may persist for up to 12 months, can be detected by means of SPECT HMPAO. We also demonstrate that SPECT is a sensitive method of evaluation of both early and late post-traumatic alterations within the CNS. However, routine EEG testing should not be disregarded as a tool for detection of such alterations. In fact, EEG records can be helpful in the diagnosis of the post-traumatic epilepsy in its early stage and allow for the detection of changes in the brain bioelectric activity in patients with the post-traumatic encephalopathy. Based on the results of the present study as well as on the findings by other authors, we conclude that the described diagnostic procedure should become a steady element of the clinical evaluation and qualification of sportsmen presenting with subjective symptoms as the sequelae of a minor head trauma.
