Abstract des Autors

Anaerobic capacity and somatotype were evaluated on 51 varsity college athletes. Anaerobic capacity was evaluated through blood lactate determinations and administration of the Margaria-Kalamen Test of Anaerobic Power (3). Morphological conformations were determined for each subject by utilizing the Heath-Carter Anthropometric Rating Method (1). Results indicate that participants in each of the athletic specialities investigated - football, basketball, soccer, gymnastics, wrestling, and cross country running possess a relatively homogeneous somatotype particular to their sport. Anaerobic capacity was enhanced as a result of 8 weeks of conditioning. Those sports which constitute work periods of high intensity but short duration made the most significant increases in both the lactacid and alactacid components of anaerobic capacity. Verf.-Referat
