Ploetzliche Tode im Sport resultieren vor allem aus Krankheiten des Herz-Kreislauf-Systems. Verf. definieren den ploetzlichen Tod als einen unerwarteten Tod als Resultat natuerlicher Ursachen, die innerhalb von sechs Stunden nach den Symptomen oder nach dem Kollaps zu einem totalen Funktionsverlust fuehren. Verf. diskutieren verschiedene Ursachen ploetzlicher Todesfaelle im Sport anhand pathologischer Befunde: atherosklerotische Koronargefaesserkrankung, hypertrophe Kardiomyopathie, arrythmogene Kardiomyopathie des rechten Ventrikels, anomaler Koronararterienursprung, intramyokardialer Koronararterienverlauf, Mitralklappenprolaps, Anomalitaeten des Leitungssystems, Myokarditis und Aortendissektion.
