Abstract des Autors

The author first looks at the development of women's athletics during the past 100 years and arrives at the conclusion that there may be little more to be done to catch up with male athletes in regard to the competition programme, but there are many other projects to be undertaken, especially with regard to recruiting more women as coaches, administrators and officials. Above all she sees a lack of women in the bodies responsible for taking decisions. In general, the aims of all those who are responsible for, or who are in any way involved in the employment, management, education, training, development or care of women in sports are: (1) to increase the involvement of women in sports/athletics at all levels and in all functions and roles, (2) to ensure that the knowledge, experience and values of women can contribute to the development of our sport, (3) to promote the recognition of women's involvement in athletics as a contribution to social life, healthy lifestyle and personal development, and (4) to ensure that all women and girls have the opportunity to participate in athletics in a safe and supportive environment which preserves the right, dignity and respect of the individual.
