Abstract des Autors

An important element in a patient's rehabilitation is the follow-up after an injury which does not heal by itself but leaves the patient with a disorder of the quality of movement. During sports activities, the load on the motor system is generally higher than during routine activities. Therefore, after an injury, the maximum load must remain below the level of sports activities until full recovery has taken place. In this stage, it is unwise to do only sports exercises and not take guidance from a expert on rehabilitation. What is most important in this situation is not the physical therapy, but the guidance, which must be based on the nature of the disorder and the limitations. This is where sports physicians, rehabilitation physicians and physiotherapists play a major role. The target is full recovery of all daily functions, and for many this includes sports. In the end, different functional tests must determine whether or not it is advisable to resume sports activities after rehabilitation. This article is a specially revised version of an article from 'Bijblijven' (Staying With lt) by the same author, titled 'Applying Physiotherapy in Sports Training and Sports Injuries'. Verf.-Referat
