Abstract des Autors

The present article studies the service tactics exhibited by the national teams, participating in the 1994 World Volleyball Championship and compares them with the club teams service tactics of the 1992 European Volleyball Championship. To this purpose the final games for positions 1-6 of the 1994 World Volleyball Championship as well as the final games for positions 1-4 of the 1992 European Volleyball Championship were video-recorded and analysed. The results of the analysis revealed an obvious change of preference of high-level teams towards the jump serve. Notwithstanding the high risk it still contains, the jump serve has proven to be quite consequent, with regards to the restraint of the opposing team's attacking efficiency. The mean service flight times remain the same for both tournaments for all kinds of serves, while they differ significantly from kind to kind. Consequently the observed mean flight times can be used as a measure for classification and assessment. Verf.-Referat
