Abstract des Autors

Osgood-Schlatter disease is an apophyseal osteochondromatosis observed in children who practice sports. Treatment is based on rest from sports activities and sometimes requires immobilisation with a cast. To assess an alternative treatment, we studied the clinical course in 23 cases in children aged 12-15 years followed for several years among 28 cases treated between 1991 and 1996. The children practiced various sports. All were counselled to reduce sports activities and were given local subcutaneous injections of calcitonin around and over the anterior tibial tuberosity. Results showed that 21.7% of the children did not have to completely interrupt their sports activities and responded very well to treatment. After stopping sports activities for three months, 82.5% of the cases were considered to be cured. This treatment protocol allows a shorter rest period so these young athletes can continue their sports activities, an important point for these children. Verf.-Referat
