Abstract des Autors

This case report concerns a 31-yr-old Caucasian male athlete who was suffering from left upper extremity pain due to osteochondroma. The patient had noted a snapping sensation in his left shoulder for many years. It had not been painful until the previous 6 months, when he began to notice a gradual increase in proximal humerus pain during different physical activities. Weight training with bench press, biceps curl, external rotational movements, and especially supination increased the left proximal humerus and shoulder pain. The patient was receiving maintenance chiropractic care when he noted the left upper extremity pain. Clinical and radiographic findings suggested a symptomatic, solitary, pedunculated osteochondroma. An orthopedic referral was made for evaluation and treatment, as well as to rule out malignant transformation. The diagnosis was confirmed by the orthopedist. Symptomatic treatment with anti-inflammatory medication was prescribed for 1 wk without resolution of pain. Surgical excision was performed. The pathology report of the lesion was negative for sarcomatous degeneration. The patient remains asymptomatic with full range of motion and function of the left upper extremity 4 yr later.
