Abstract des Autors

Skier's thumb is an injury to the ulnar/medial collateral ligament of the thumb at the metacarpophalangeal joint. In more severe cases there may also be osseous damage. (Fricker and Hintermann, 1995). It is reported to be the second most common skiing injury, accounting for 7% of all skiing injuries at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, a major skiing resort in the USA (Warme et al., 1995); while other studies put it as high as 9.5% (Carr et al., 1981). This may represent up to 200,000 injuries per year world wide, just due to skiing and not including similar injuries with other sports. Verf.-Referat
