Abstract des Autors

Women have been underrepresented in sports history, at least in the Federal Republic of Germany. The attempt to reconstruct the development of female body culture is confronted by different problems, such as male language, sources which pertain to a male world and generally accepted patterns of thinking, which see the "male" as the "universal". Sports history from a woman's perspective must be based on the theoretical approaches of a feministic study of history and must be connected to different methods and procedures. Only this way can a double goal be achieved: on the one hand, to recall women's sportspecific achievements and experiences, chances and barriers from the past, and on the other hand to change and enrich sports history as a whole.
