Abstract des Autors
Rowing in comparison to bicycling activates more muscle mass, which at the same submaximal work load should lead to less cardiovascular and metabolic reactions. The question to be answered was whether there were differences in these parameters between standardized rowing and bicycle ergometric tests. In 14 persons, the work load was intensified stepwise from 50 W to 150 W. Spirometric parameters and heart rate were measured continuously, while blood pressure, lactate, and catecholamines were taken intermittently. All results between 100 W and 150 W suggested a significantly higher strain in rowing. Oxygen uptake, ventilation, and breath frequency increased, starting with 50 W. Rowing ergometry can be recommended for rehabilitation only if due consideration is given to the more intensive strain at the same work load. Verf.-Referat
