Abstract des Autors

The object of this investigation was to find out whether changes in the chronotropic cardiac control of the heart take place during physical rest in the course of a long-term training program. The heart rate pattern at rest of 9 canoeists was studied over a period of 8 months. Heart rate rhythmicity decreased by up to 58% in 5 middle-trained athletes (126 W at 4 mmol/l lactate). In 4 highly trained athletes (172 W), the heart rate pattern was stable. During this period, both groups had similar percentage increase in ergometer output. The analysis of heart rate rhythmicity during physical rest provides date for the assessment of the sympathetic-parasympathetic balance. Trends in the time structure are an expression of changes in the vegetative state whose roots could be in a regeneration deficit. Verf.-Referat
