Abstract des Autors

The increase in lactate during exercise is discussed as a consequence of a decrease of PO2 in blood under a critical value (about 2.7 kPa) or as a function of exercise intensity. Five subjects performed incremental handgrip exercise under acute hypoxia (12.5% O2, HO), normoxia, and acute hyperoxia (50% O2, HY). Skin blood flow was reduced by cooling. The slopes of the linear regression lines between avD lactate and relative power were 0.034 (HO), 0.029 (NO), and 0.032 (HY) (not significantly different). The constant relation between lactate and performance inspite of the differences in PO2, and the increasing lactate inspite of a constant PO2, during exercise indicate that lactate is not caused by a decrease of PO2.
