Author's abstract

From 1964 to 1989, 207 patients (176 men, 31 women) with closed rupture of Achilles tendon underwent operative treatment. The results were reviewed in a in a retrospective study. The average age was 36.5 years. In 176 patients the rupture occurred during sports. In most cases the operative treatment was performed by augmented en-to-end suture. Complication rate was 8.7%. The incidence of rerupture was 2.9%. 66.7% of patients assessed the result to be "very good", 19.7% to be "good", 12.% to be "satisfactory" and only 1.4% to be "poor". Verf.-Referat
