Abstract des Autors

Male (n=449) and female (n=261) elite and other top class athletes from diverse sports, aged 19-26 years, were studied with respect to their body components (lean body mass and fat content) relative to body mass. Relative body fat contents in male athletes ranged from 7.56+/-1.00% in decathletes to 13.40+/-3.05% in shot putters, while in female athletes - from 13.41+/-2.21% in jumpers to 21.89+/-4.48% in fencers. Relative body fat content was sport-dependent in both men and women, highest values being observed in those sports in which the dominant role played a complex movement technique, while lowest - in those requiring a high level of endurance.
