Abstract des Autors
An overview is given of issues associated with vigorous exercise and sudden death. During such activity, the risk is increased some fivefold relative to resting conditions, but because the active person has a lower risk at rest, the overall prognosis for both survival and quality-adjusted life expectancy is improved by an active lifestyle. A variety of pathologies contribute to risk, and exhaustive screening does not seem a cost-effective approach to reducing the likelihood of such incidents. Rather, emphasis should be placed on a temporary moderation of activity if a person feels unwell or is exercising in an adverse physical or psychological environment. Verf.-Referat
