Abstract des Autors

The topic sports and old age comprises two aspects: sports and ageing processes and sports in old age. The medical modalities of the second aspect have not been conclusively elaborated as yet. Five categories of elderly persons active in sports may be discriminated: lifelong sportsmen with participation in competitions, lifelong sportsmen without further competitions, rebeginners after abstinence from sport, late beginners, occasional exercisers. The crucial goal of sports in old age is a fun-oriented effective activity at minimal risk. The following considerations have to be taken into account: active warm-up, avoidance of high intensities, thermoregulatory demands, immunological constellations, risks of injury, thorough recovery, chronic diseases, psychological interactions, environmental pollution etc. The performances have to be evaluated according to a modified standard.
