Abstract des Autors

An augmented intake of PUFA induces alterations in the composition of cell membranes and thus influences their metabolic properties. In the present study the effects of a supplementation with fishoil on exercise-induced stress reactions were investigated. 27 endurance trained athletes took 3 x 3 capsules of fishoil/d in a double blinded design (0.95 g EPS + 0.65 g DHS/d). GC-analysis of total plasma lipids showed a significant increase of EPA; thromboxane A2 production was significantly lower in the fishoil group. Typical parameters indicating physical stress were lower in the fishoil group 1 h and 24 h after a 30 km cross country race. From the results, it can be concluded that a supplementation with EPA exerts a positive influence on the physico-chemical properties of membranes and leads to an altered prostaglandin production.
