Abstract des Autors

Short-term exercise (</= 30 min) is generally known to increase the density and function of beta2-adrenoceptors (beta-AR). However, the effect of intensive long-term exercise (>/= 1 h) on these parameters is not known. Therefore, we investigated the beta-AR density on intact mononuclear leukocytes (MNL) in triathletes (n=10) before and immediately after one hour of exhausting running, biking and swimming exercise at 105% of the IAT. The beta-AR density per MNL increased (p>/= 0.01) more than 80% after running, biking and swimming exercise, respectively, compared with pre-start values. Despite this significant increase of beta-AR density, the stimulated maximal cAMP-production increased only marginally and therefore, the beta-AR:cAMP ratio decreased significantly (p</=0.05) after exercise. The coupling, too, was markedly reduced. These results demonstrate a desensitisation at receptor or post-receptor-level after exhaustive long-term exercise. Verf.-Referat
