Abstract des Autors

In the last decade many authors reported anemia that occurred in top athletes of both sexes performing in various endurance disciplines. The disturbances in erythropoiesis due to heavy physical training is one of the possible causes of sports anemia. It can result from suppression of erythropoietin biosynthesis, shift of iron from the bone marrow to hepatocytes due to increased intravessel hemolysis during physical effort, hypocellularity of the bone marrow, changes in lymphocyte subsets and decreased level of serum testosterone caused by overtraining. The author discusses the possible mechanisms of anemia in athletes. Verf.-Referat
