Abstract des Autors
Sport medical examinations of cyclists for determination of the individual performance are performed usually on bicycle ergometers; the test subject has to react to changes in the workload given by the investigator. Further development of a method to test cyclists riding their own bikes on a treadmill, as described by us earlier, allows the exact measurement of the maximum power which can be voluntarily developed. The athletes are connected by a cable with a force measuring equipment, which is fixed behind the treadmill; they drive their bikes on the treadmill pulling on the cable. The developed power is shown as a column-graph on a scope in their front. To test the athlete's intervall capacity which is an important skill in competitive cycling the following test procedure is performed: The athletes drive on the treadmill maximum bouts of 15 sec duration alternating with 45 sec rest until exhaustion. The test is ceased, when the work of a single intervall decreases by more than 25% compared with the first intervall. Investigations in cyclists of the Niedersaechsischer Radsportverband revealed workloads between 650 and more than 1000 Watt for a single bout. The specific performance of a cyclist can be judged from the number of bouts, the absolute workload of a single bout and the workload stability among different bouts. Verf.-Referat
