Abstract des Autors
The value of the PWC 170 for the estimation of performance was investigated by supine bicycle ergometric work in 180 volunteers, 60 respectively 20-29, 30-39 and 40-49 years old. The maximal workload and the PWC 170 were compared. In spite of a statistical correlation between the max. workload and the PWC 170 (r = 0.70-0.80) there were serious miscalculations of the performance using the PWC 170. In groups of various age the performance of older persons is overestimated because of the reduced heart rate with increasing age. Therefore under certain conditions the PWC 170 seems to be useful to compare the performance of groups, in the individual case, however, this criterion leads to a high risk of miscalculation.
