Abstract des Autors

The blood ammonia determination is of increasing importance for the search of talents as well as for the training and competition control in sports medicine. In this study 12 male healthy volunteers performed an isometric handgrip test with 80% of the maximal voluntary contraction force at a frequency of 25 contractions per minute. In this isolated exercise of a defined group of muscles we found an increase of ammonia from 46 to 120 micro-mol/l, of lactate from 0.77 to 3.63 mmol/l, and of hypoxanthine from 2.2 to 7.0 micro-mol/l in the local venous blood. The systemic concentrations of ammonia and hypoxanthine did not change while there was a slight increase of lactate. These results demonstrate the significance of the involved muscle mass and of the localisation of blood drawing for the judgement of measured blood ammonia concentrations. Furthermore, a survey of important methodical and metabolic factors is given. Verf.-Referat
