Abstract des Autors
After depletion (SKA) and enrichment (SKR) of muscle glycogen stores in randomised sequence 16 volunteers performed a stepwise incremental bicycle test until exhaustion with determination of lactate kinetics and ventilatory parameters. Comparing SKA with SKR at rest and all work loads lactate and respiratory quotient were significantly lower, heart rate was similar at work. At SKA maximum performance was 9% lower, the 4 mmol/l lactate threshold 11% higher, while the individual anaerobic threshold was only slightly altered. The present results indicate, that in contrast to fixed lactate thresholds individual lactate thresholds are not substantially affected by the muscle glycogen content, which is of importance for performance diagnosis and possibly training management on the basis of threshold concepts.
