Abstract des Autors

The influence of different distances in swimming (50 m, 100 m, 200 m) and different rest periods of time in water (5 min, 10 min and 20 min) as well as different water temperatures (28 deg C and 33 deg C) on body temperature, have been investigated in twenty-four 19 to 28 years old trained and untrained females (11 and 13, respectively). In all 3 distances the exertion of swimming was related to water temperature, and specifically, led to a sudden decrease in body temperature of an average of 2-3 deg C. No statistically significant differences were found between the difference in the decrease of temperature and the skinfolds. During a 20 min recovery period in water the body temperature increased in all subjects. In warmer water (30 deg C), differences in temperature between preexercise and postexercise were lower.
